Landscape Use: Accent or screen
Comments: Can get sun burn on the south west
facing side during winter, Susceptible
to snow damage. Make sure to note
your home elevation only good
5,500 feet.

Maximum Elevation: 5500 ft.
Questionable deer resistance.

Landscape Use: Either Accent or Specimen
Comments: Need protection from heat and
reflected heat, can use extra water.
Large sections can brown and die out
in extended heat and sun exposure.

Maximum Elevation: 9000 ft.
Questionable deer resistance

grew past that in 3 years, then just stopped
growing at about 20’.

Comments: A real conundrum. Needles
change color into winter,
and it has a great shape.
I use as an alternative to
Globe Spruce,hoping that
it will not get as large as the
books state. So far they have
proven to be very slow growing.

Maximum Elevation: 6000 ft.
Mostly deer resistant

Comments: Many varieties now on the market.

Slow Mound is the smallest at 3’

Original version 15’ tall 8’ Wide

Unfortunately these have a high
transplant loss rate.


Maintenance: Very Low
Maximum Elevation: 9000 ft.

needle drop in late summer- fall.

Maximum Elevation: 7500 ft.
