Jupiter’s Beard/Red Valerian

Jupiter’s Beard/Red Valerian
Centranthus ruber

Perennial

Size:
Height 24-36”
Spacing 30”

Sun: Full Sun
Water: Xeric

Landscape Use: Great color all summer.
natural spreading form. Bloom color is reddish-pink
which is a difficult-to-find color.  Also available
in white.

Comments: Hard to beat for color and texture
in xeric plants. Will reseed so plant
sparingly, and cut off spent blooms asap. Will
re-bloom several times if deadheaded.  The first
bloom in spring is usually the best.

Maintenance: Cut back to ground in fall
or if self-seeding becomes a problem
then cut back hard in July after the first flowering

Maximum elevation: 9000 ft.

May be deer resistant
