Hosta


Hosta varieties/
Hosta. sieboldiana, H.fortunei,
Hosta undulata
     
Perennial

Size:
Height: depends on variety.  Some are 36” tall or as
small as 12”, with 18” an average size.
Spacing 24”

Water:  Needs regular watering.
Landscape Use:  Planted in shade; provides
large and interesting leaf texture in shady areas.
Can be grown under large shade trees.

Blooms:  Flowers vary from white to lilac on
slender stems in July-September; depending on
the variety. 

Comments:
Needs almost constant shade; will suffer leaf
burn if exposed to intense sun. Slugs are a common
pest and best handled with “beer traps”.

Maintenance: Dead head flowers (stalks and all)
when flowers fade,Fertilize with 10-10-10
Cut back to ground in fall when leaves have
turned brown.

Maximum elevation:8000 ft.
